Rio, the best city in the world right now!

Today Lucas and me tried to escape yet another carnaval massacre, because if you just go out on the street and let the rest go free, there is almost only Caipirinha, Dancing, and more waiting. Which is great, but can be overwhelming at times, if no breaks are involved!

So after another hostel-move in the morning (we went back and forth between some places in the last days, cause each was fully booked the other day) we had another Quilo-lunch. This means get whatever you like on your plate, pay about 75 cents for 100grams, and enjoy! I like Brasil!

We tried to have lunch on the top of the hill though, we stay around Santa Teresa which feels like a wonderful village in this enormous town. About the middle of the hill is where we are located, we wanted to take the bus up, but it never came, so we walked all the way. 35 degrees and very steep streets make that an interesting pre-lunch assignment, not necessarily something I can recommend. When we got to the top, of course the restaurant was closed, like a lot of things are when you go out of the (party)center.

Luckily we did find a bus going down, and we got down to Lapa, the neighbourhood right next to us, below the hill. This is where you could spend every night of Carnaval, there is music blasting from all angles, and drinks to get at every square inch of the place. We just went for lunch this time. Keep it cool!

We took a bus in the direction of J. Botanico, only to see it stop around another Bloco, a streetparty, completely blocking a big road. Dancing & drinking people allover, but again, we tried to run away, because this is our relaxing tuesday! So we walked, the route of the bus, which kept on going a little too long. After some misguidance of ourselves we found the right path to Parque Nacional da Tijulca! Started out as a great place immediately, very high trees got us covered from the sun completely, finally some cool air. We had to climb up yet another mountain, but it was so worth it. After a while on the road, we got to the first small waterfall, quite crowded and after Iguazu a small step back I would say.

But Lucas found a hiking track through the forest, very steep and challenging on flipflops, but after some serious footwork the reward was enormous. Here we found an amazingly beautiful open space, a lot of rocks in the water, and there was the īrealī waterfall!!
Lucas didnīt know how fast he could get in the middle it, taking a shower as good as only nature can offer. Now I just had to try, get my shorts on and dive in too. Refreshing, the power of the water was almost too much, you couldnīt see much as soon as you got under the stream. Great massage for the head and my back.

Pictures of some our Carnaval adventures and Rioīs beautiful nature will hopefully follow soon, unfortunately these hostel pcīs are not available for long periods of time and it tends to be a lot of work, so I gotta get to a decent internet place at some point.
More stories about our last days also need to get to print, but we are out almost all day every day (and yes, night) so busy busy here.
Will try to get to it soonish!
Today was just too beautiful not too tell you about, one of the highlights until now.
Back soon,

F
