Another day, another picture.

Yesterday I got an enormous pack of sunscreen, and took up the crazy idea of an afternoon stroll. The city was deserted, nobody walks around in siesta hours, and I think I got the idea why. Unbearably hot it was, but I got to make some nice pictures of the quiet boulevard by day, and the bridge connecting us to Paraguay, I might even go across sometime soon!

The amount of old European and American cars on the streets is amazing, Ford Falcon is standard issue here, as are old VWs. Posadas is growing rapidly since quite some time now, I read a guidebook, 10 years old, that tells us that there are about 240.000 inhabitants. Yesterday I found a Posadas promotion magazine in the hostel, and it told me that July last year has marked the 350.000! In other words 30 percent increase in 10 years, this city is booming?

I admit, there is 1 shopping mall in the centre, and when I walked around at dinnertime (10pm), the main square and all shopping streets around it were packed with people, so they were really just hiding during the day. The late evening I spent at the boulevard, the local youth parks their cars, opens the doors, turns the volume to a maximum, and near every other group of people you find more Argentinian Dance Music. (Whatever that may be, Cumbia?). There are a few housey summer tunes going on here, if you work hard enough you can hear them 100 times a day, but they are still quite fun.

A few of the pictures show an interesting phenomenon, some guys are wading through the water, they do not do this for fun! A cute local girl told me that the water in the river (Rio Parana) is around 7m higher than normal. Where all this water comes from she could not tell me, but some the harbour pictures show a house half underwater, people working in the water, and cars with their tires completely drown.
Oh and you are right, it is completely the time to buy sunglasses, smiling for pictures when the sun is out tends to get really difficult as you can see.

Tomorrow there is the biggest Electronic Music Festival of the year in Posadas, lucky me!
www.liveposadas.com if you want to see the great website they made, there will be a lot of regional top-dj guys, and the King of Ibiza, Wally Lopez! We will see how that turns out, but it is an outdoor event with 3 stages so should be quite nice.
Maybe I will find the time to do another story of the last weeks tomorrow, all the pictures are now finally up to date, enjoy!
